Upcoming PRIViLEDGE Workshop on Data Sharing and Privacy

From contact tracing apps to economic forecasting, 2020 has seen a range of innovative new uses for data – and also re-ignited long-standing debates on data sharing, data protection, privacy and public interest.

PRIViLEDGE has invited several European experts to investigate how blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) can offer solutions for data security and privacy issues during a two hour virtual workshop “Data Sharing and Privacy – What Has Changed in the Era of COVID? A Deep Dive into Policy Dilemmas and New Technological Solutions”. The event will take place on the 15th of October.

This interdisciplinary virtual workshop will bring together researchers, innovators and policy makers. We kick off with a keynote panel that explores how political and policy priorities around data and privacy have evolved since the beginning of 2020.  This will be followed by a briefing from four Horizon 2020 projects that present insights and new techniques for data security and privacy. Finally, the European Commission will reflect on how the European Union’s strategies for data and blockchain will support further innovation in coming years.

The workshop’s aims to provide answers to the following questions:

  • What are the most relevant scientific and technological advances in DLT being developed under Horizon 2020 research and innovation actions, especially from security and privacy aspects?

  • What are the ongoing strategic initiatives undertaken by the EU to develop DLT technologies, and what kind of cooperation opportunities arise for the EU’s DLT research community?

  • How can the policy stakeholders and research community work together to support the EU's strategic goals on blockchain?

Besides PRIViLEDGE, who's representative Mr Toon Segers will present privacy advances in DLT in PRIViLEDGE, this workshop will include presentations from the following H2020 projects:

  • CUREX - Prof. Christos Xenakis will discuss electronic health data exchange considering security & privacy.

  • FENTEC - Mr Francisco Javier González Gala will talk about increasing trustworthiness of ICT solutions with functional encryption.

  • CHARIOT - Mr Konstantinos Loupos will focus on blockchain as an enabler in the CHARIOT integrated approach to Industrial IoT safety, privacy and security.
